The Micro-Credentialing Program was funded under the Public Sector Innovation Fund
The Victoria Public Sector Commission administers the functions of government including reporting on government staffing, delivering programs and services, implementing legislative and regulatory agendas, and providing partial and objective policy advice.
The Micro-Credentialing Program was funded under the Public Sector Innovation Fund, with the goal of recruiting approximately 3,000 learners to complete 10,000 micro-credentials over 6 months.
The project sought to test the effectiveness of micro-credentials to build capability in emerging areas of need across the Victorian Public Service (VPS) and to identify whether micro-credential learning could improve mobility and build capability across the VPS.
RMIT Online was selected as the project partner for delivery of the Program, and contributed academic expertise, 10 existing micro-credential courses, data gathering of enrolments and course completion, support for the co-design of 3 VPS-focused micro-credential courses, and their learning management system platform.
The Program received approximately 4,400 Expressions of interest for participation, with all being sent invitations to enrol in the Program. Over 65% of participants went onto register to up to 13 courses, totalling to 11,932 enrolments (averaging to 2.8 courses per participant).
The most popular courses were Agile Ways of Working, Business Problem Solving, Data Fundamentals, Managing Data in Excel, Planning a Project.
The post-participation survey asked each participant their agreement with series of statements about their experience with the Program. 82.7% of participants agreed that the courses were relevant to their current work, 90.9% agreed that micro-credential courses are a good way of building useful work skills with 87.4% of them also agreeing that they would recommend micro-credentials as learning method to other people.
